Matlacha Civic Association to meet today at Matlacha Park

The Matlacha Civic Association will hold its monthly meeting today, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m., at the Arts Building in Matlacha Park located at 4577 Pine Island Road. The agenda includes nominations for Board of Director positions for 2021-22. Elections will be held at the Nov. 17 meeting which will be a potluck.
Also to be discussed at the meeting is Cape Coral’s new application to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to remove the Chiquita Lock. The Matlacha Civic Association and other constituents successfully sued Cape Coral to prevent removal of the lock in 2019.
In addition, NOAA’S Ocean Chemistry and Ecosystems Division has been collaborating with the Florida Commercial Watermen Conservancy to provide water testing in the Matlacha Pass. A report will be presented on their work to date which shows massive pollutants entering the pass from the Cape Coral North Spreader canal. A report will be presented about more expansive testing.
The meeting will be live-streamed on the Matlacha Civic Association Facebook page.
