Beacon of Hope activities set for November

The Beacon of Hope has set its programs and activities for the month of November, including a few early events for December and January. The Beacon is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Computers, fax and printer are available for use.
The Food Bank is open every Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The Emergency Pantry is available when the Beacon is open.
– Wellness Committee — Monday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m.
– Strange Arrangement — Monday 6-7:30 p.m. Lessons given. A musical experience.
– Funds/ Communications meeting — Monday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m.
– Grants Committee meeting — Thursday, Nov. 18, at 2:30 p.m.
– Pine Island Cares — Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 10 a.m.
– Homelessness Committee — Thursday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m.
– Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group — First and third Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. Call 239-437-3007 to register.
– Ancient Remedy Wellness class — Thursday nights starting at 6 p.m.
– Beacon Madness Fundraiser, a board with $250 of scratch-offs and a $100 bill. Tickets will be sold for $5 during November, with the drawing at Low Key Tiki on Dec. 1, at 4:30 p.m.
– Giving Tuesday is Nov. 30.
– GED classes are on Tuesday and Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
– ESOL classes are held every Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Beacon, Monday from 7:30- 9:30 a.m. at the Park, and Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Shrimp Farm.
– The Attic (Thrift Store) will be open Monday through Frida,y from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations may be brought during these times. Days of 50% of “almost everything” will be Tuesday, Nov. 2; Black Friday, Nov. 26; and Tuesday, Dec. 21.

The present series is on Mental Health with the first one on Mental Health in general. Following it will be specific problems such as PTSD, isolation, depression, and abuse — how to recognize the symptoms, what can be done about it, and how you can help. Stay tuned.
