Beacon of Hope announces activities, programs for September, beyond

The Beacon of Hope has set its programs and activities for the month of September, including a few early events for October. The Beacon is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Computers, fax and printer are available for use.

The Food Bank is open every Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The Emergency Pantry is available when the Beacon is open.

• Wellness Committee – Monday, Sept. 13, 10 a.m.

• Strange Arrangement – Mondays, 6-7:30 p.m. Lessons given. A musical experience.

• Funds/Communications meeting. Monday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m.

• Grants Committee meeting – Thursday, Sept. 23, 2:30 p.m.

• Pine Island Cares – Wednesday, Oct. 13, 10 a.m.

• Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group – Every third Thursday (the group started meeting Aug. 19), 2:15 p.m. Call 239-437-3007 to register

• Ancient Remedy Wellness class – Thursday nights starting Sept. 16, time TBD

• Medicare Educational Seminar – Friday, Sept. 24, 10 a.m.

• GED classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• ESOL class is every Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Beacon.

• The Attic (Thrift Store) will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations may be brought during these times. Tuesday, Sept. 7, will be 50% off “almost everything” day.

Wellness articles are now available on our Website, beaconofhopepineisland.com. These articles are changed every couple weeks. Past articles are archived and can be read at any time. The present series is on spices. There was an article on garlic, ginger and turmeric. The new one is cayenne.
