Matlacha Hookers hosting ‘Fill the Trailer’ school supply drive for P.I.E. this Saturday

The Matlacha Hookers, in partnership with Pine Island Auto Repair and the Ragged Ass Saloon, are holding a “Fill the Trailer” event Saturday, July 24, at the Ragged Ass Saloon beginning at 10 a.m. Items can be dropped off all day.

“Let’s fill the trailer and provide all of our P.I.E. students with the tools they need to excel,” said Madam DJ Ruscik.

These are the items requested by the P.I.E. teachers: large size backpacks with no wheels, headphones for grades K-1 and earbuds for 3-5, pencil boxes, scissors (blunt tip only), #2 pencils, erasers (both cap and large pink rectangles), whiteboard markers (erasable and fine tip), expo markers dry eraser, glue sticks, colored pencils, pens (black, blue and red), marbled composition books, spiral notebooks (one subject, wide rule), pocket folders with middle brad in all colors, 3 ring binders (both 1 inch and 2 inch), Crayola markers (washable), Crayola crayons, transparent tape, yellow highlighters, 3 x 5 index cards, facial tissue, stickers (fun, numbers and alphabet letters), sticky notes, zipper baggies (all sizes), wipes and paper towels

Hookers’ Back to School Program Chair Karen Durand said, “We hope everyone can join us on July 24, however, if not, collection bins have been placed around the island for product donations at the following business locations through July 31.”

In Matlacha, donation bins are available at the Post Office, The Perfect Cup, Blue Dog Restaurant, Trader’s Hitching Post, Yucatan Bar and Grill, CW Fudge, the Olde Fish House Marina Restaurant and Miceli’s Restaurant. At the Center, bring supplies to Little Lilly’s, El Polo Rico, Pine Island Community Church, Nick B’s Artisan Food Market, Pine Island Chamber of Commerce, Cutting Ties Salon, Pine Island First Baptist Church, Winn-Dixie, Dollar General, Island Grill, Centennial Bank, Pine Island Methodist Church or the Pine Island Elks Lodge. In Bokeelia, you may donate your items at the Pine Island Library, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church or Cap’n Cons Fish House. In St. James City, donation bins can be found at the Pine Island Auto Care, the Moose Lodge, VFW, Ragged Ass Salon, Low Key Tiki and Pine Island First Baptist Church.

Monetary donations are also welcome. All monetary donations go to the school in the form of either product or a check, so that teachers can meet the student’s supply needs throughout the year. Donations can be made by cash or check, mailed to Matlacha Hookers, PO Box 111, Matlacha, FL 33993. Be sure to write “school supplies” into memo area.

Donations can also be made online at https://www.matlachahookers.org/. Click the donation button at the bottom of the website home page and select the ‘Pine Island Elementary School Supply’ fund name in the drop-down box.
