Harry’s Helpings continues at Pine Island United Methodist

Pine Island United Methodist Church is continuing its participation with Harry’s Helpings, a summer program offered through the Harry Chapin Food Bank until the end of August.
The church is provided with pre-sorted boxes of food and people can pick up these boxes on Saturday mornings from 9-11 a.m.
Since the number of participants has varied so greatly from week to week, it’s important for people to know they are welcome to this food if they need it, said organizer Beverly Brewer.
There are no special requirements or information other than giving your name and the number of people in specified age groups within your household. One person is also able to pick up food for multiple families, as long as they have the necessary information.
“We’ve done this for the last three years with them,” Brewer said. “Last year was different because we were delivering grocery bags. Prior to that we had the food available on Saturday.”
Some of the shelf-stable products people can expect to find are peanut butter, jelly, canned goods, pasta, spaghetti sauce, cake mix and other easy to use items.
Pine Island United Methodist Church is located at 5701 Pine Island Road, Bokeelia, FL 33922. For additional information, call 239-283-2386.
