Garden Club beautifies Pine Island Elementary with butterfly garden
In support of its mission to encourage and stimulate the appreciation of island beauty, the Pine Island Garden Club recently planned, purchased and planted a butterfly garden on the campus of the Pine Island Elementary School.
The project was initiated by PIE Principal Dr. Tom Millin, who expressed the desire for a garden to not only enhance the beauty of the school grounds, but to instill in the children a love and closeness to the island’s nature.
Under the watchful eye of Carmello Acosta, the school’s maintenance director, club members Cheryl King, Barb Riordan, Amy Lynch, Kathy Chumley and Marty Kendall are placing the finishing touches on the new garden.
The club meets in season on the third Thursday of each month at the Fishers of Men Lutheran Church. For more information about the group, visit pineislandgardenclub.org or contact Marty Kendall at 239-283-8175.
