The Pine Island Playhouse will be holding auditions June 7 and 8 for its production of “The Secret Life of Girls” a show written by Linda Doherty.

The auditions will be from 6-7 p.m., at the Pine Island Playhouse, located at 5701 Pine Island Road, NW.

The Pine Island Playhouse has previously featured Doherty shows, according to Playhouse founder, Nichole Pichon.

“The first one was done for Student Series,” said Pichon. “It’s called Eat, it’s not about food.”

This is a show about teenage girls and bullying, she said, with the twinge of reality that unfortunately many youth will relate to their own experiences. Youth playhouse actress, freshman Bella Player will be directing the upcoming show. The all-female cast will include seven youth and three adult roles, Pichon said, adding that she’s very excited to get back to it after the pandemic shut down so many of the playhouse events.

“It’s great to be back,” said Pichon. “The last show we did was ‘Clue’ and that was at the end of March. This is generally a poorly attended show. It’s real, and people don’t like to be uncomfortable. So, student series shows are poorly attended, even though they’re some of the best shows we’ve ever done.”

Pichon has hopes of taking the show to a willing school this coming fall. The rule for a student series show is that the directing student must be in high school.

According to Pichon, Player has had her eye on directing this particular show, knowing her time was coming as a high school student.

“It’s a really good show,” said Pichon, “and I think Bella will do a really good job directing it.”
