The Greater Pine Island Little League Major’s Division All-Stars ended their season recently.

The All-Stars took on the Gulf Coast Lightning travel team in game one of their doubleheader and took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Davis Wold drew a one-out walk, Mason Wells followed with a walk and Wold was driven home on a Dalton Dooley single.

That would be the only run of the game for the All-Stars, as the Lightning pitching shut down the Stars offense the rest of the game.

The Lightning got three first inning runs off Dalton, the Pine Island All-Stars starting pitcher. The big hit was a two RBI double by Al Moreno. The Lightning added four more runs in the second inning off Dooley, for a 7-1 lead. John Marino had a two RBI double for the Lightning.

Wold relieved Dooley on the mound for the Pine Island All-Stars in the third inning. He gave up two runs on two walks and two hits.

The Lightning scored two more runs in the fourth off Wold for the final 11-1 score.

Wold, Luke Harre, Chance Barnhill and Jaime Huerta all had hits for the Pine Island All-Stars.

Game two saw the Pine Island All-Stars take on the Fort Myers All-Stars. After being blanked in their half of the first inning, Luke Harre took the mound for the island team. Harre walked a batter and hit another, giving up a first inning run to Fort Myers. The Fort Myers All-Stars added two more runs in the second inning on a big two-out single by Tim Butts, giving Fort Myers a 3-0 lead.

The Pine Island All-Stars did not quit, fighting back and scoring two runs in the third inning to trail by only a 3-2 score. Huerta had a big hit in the inning for Pine Island.

Mason Wells took over the pitching duties for Pine Island in the third inning. He gave up a run for a 4-2 Fort Myers lead. The island squad fought back again and had the tying runs in scoring position with one out but Trey Clark popped up and Harre struck out to end the threat.

Fort Myers tacked on four more runs over the final innings for a 9-2 win.

Wells, Mark Smith and Carter Olson added hits for the island All-Stars.
