Dooley receives Pine Island Elementary’s Bobby Holloway Positive Attitude Award

Pine Island Elementary School 5th grade students participated in an End-of-the-Year Awards Ceremony on June 9. Although parents were not allowed due to COVID restrictions, Pine Island Elementary School’s administration, teachers and staff celebrated the accomplishments of their students. One such award that was awarded to a student was the prestigious Bobby Holloway Positive Attitude Award.
Bobby Holloway was a student at Pine Island Elementary and passed away in an accident in 1997. Bobby loved his teachers and classmates who were devastated by this sudden loss. The island community along with Bobby’s mother, Ernestine, came together to create the Bobby Holloway Memorial Fund, which helps many students, families, youth programs and sports teams on Pine Island and beyond.
In addition, the Bobby Holloway Positive Attitude Award was implemented to a deserving 5th grade student. The recipient of this award is chosen by the 5th grade teachers and is given to a student who represents the type of student Bobby was — kind, compassionate, happy-go-lucky and generous.
The first person to receive this award in 1997 was Summer Dooley. Summer was a 5th grade student at PIE and one of Bobby’s best friends. You can still find Summer walking the halls at Pine Island Elementary as a 4th grade teacher.
Summer said, “Receiving this award made me realize at a young age that attitude is everything.”
She was excited and proud to find out that her nephew was the person receiving the award this year.
PIE congratulated Dalton Dooley (son of Shane and Sherry), the recipient of the 2021 Bobby Holloway Positive Attitude Award. Dalton has always been a good friend to everyone he meets and genuinely cares about people. If someone is in need, he is always willing to step in and help-no matter the task at hand. He has a positive energy that draws others to him-he makes people smile, laugh, and has a “can do” attitude.
Dalton can also often be seen barefoot and surrounded by saltwater just as Bobby was. He embodies everything that the Bobby Holloway Positive Attitude Award represents.
When Dalton was asked what receiving this award meant to him he said, “It makes me feel happy that people think I am caring and that I am a good kid.”
He then added, “It’s nice that people love me and think I deserve this award.”
