Sea Sluggers top Reds, 3-1, in Major Division play

The Pine Island Sea Sluggers improved their season record to 8-0 on a well played game from both teams, with a close 3-1 win over the Pine Island Reds in recent Greater Pine Island Little League Major’s Division play at Bobby Holloway Memorial Field.
Ty Young started on the mound for the home team Reds and retired the Sea Sluggers in 1,2,3 fashion in the top of the 1st inning.
The Reds took a 1-0 lead off Slugs’ starting pitcher Davis Wold, when Mason Wells singled, stole second base and eventually came around to score on an error. Chance Barnhill later doubled in the inning to make the run earned.
The Slugs bounced right back to tie the game at 1 on a Dalton Dooley solo home run, his 1st of the season. It was the only run the Sea Sluggers would score on Young, who pitched 3 strong innings for the Reds.
Meanwhile, the Sluggers’ pitching was strong as well.
Trey Clark followed Wold to the mound for the Slugs, pitching a scoreless 2nd inning.
Mason Wells relieved Young for the Reds to start the 4th inning and gave up no runs.
Luke Harre replaced Clark on the mound for the Slugs in the 3rd inning and tossed 2 shutout innings, keeping the score tied at 1 through 4 innings.
Eliza Olson led off the Slugs 5th inning with a walk, stole 2nd base and with 2 outs, stole 3rd and continued home on an error with what would turn out to be the game winning run.
The Slugs added an insurance run in the top of the 6th inning on a Carter Olson RBI groundout.
Trey Clark, Davis Wold and Mark Smith all had singles while Luke Harre had a single and triple for the Sea Sluggers.
Other hits for the Reds were recorded by Mike Jendrusiack, who had a 2-out single in the 6th.
Dalton Dooley pitched 2 superb innings for the Slugs, giving the Reds no runs and earning the save for Slugs winning pitcher Luke Harre.
The Sea Sluggers and Reds continue their season-long series with the next game this evening, May 26 at 6 p.m. at Bobby Holloway Memorial Field, at 5700 Pine Island Road, Bokeelia, just west of The Center.
