Sea Sluggers edge Reds, 5-4, in PI Little League Major Division play

Continuing a long tradition of fine Little League baseball, the Greater Pine Island Little League season is under way at Bobby Holloway Memorial Field in Bokeelia.
This year’s president is Erin Lambert while the VP is Justin Olson.
The Major’s Division consists of 2 teams: The Reds, coached by Eddie Barnhill, assisted by Kyle Potts and Mike Jendrusiack, and The Sea Sluggers coached by Eric Wold, assisted by Shane Dooley.
In recent action, the Sea Sluggers defeated the Reds, 5-4. Dalton Dooley started on the mound for the “Slugs,” while Chase Barnhill was the Reds’ starting pitcher.
The Slugs took a 1-0 second inning lead on an RBI single by Carter Olson. The Reds bounced back in their half of the 3rd, tying the game at 1 on a wild pitch. The Slugs scored 3 runs in their half of the 3rd, highlighted by a Luke Harre 2-run double. The score stayed 4-1 in favor of the Slugs until the Reds erupted for 3 runs to tie it at 4. Mason Wells had a home run in the inning.
The Slugs won the game in the home half of the last inning when Logan Dineen led off with a walk, advanced to second on a Davis Wold groundout and scored on Mark Smith’s game winning single, his 2nd hit of the game.
With the win the Sea Sluggers are now 7-0 on the season.
Trey Clark and Davis Wold also had hits for the Slugs, while Dalton Dooley had an RBI. Chase Barnhill added a hit for the Reds.
Luke Harre and Davis Wold also pitched for the Slugs. Wold was the winning pitcher.
Mason Wells and Ty Young also pitched for the Reds.
The next game will be today, May 19, at 6 p.m. at Bobby Holloway Field.
