Garden Club to discuss ‘Plants toxic to cats’

This Thursday, May 20, the Pine Island Garden Club meeting will feature its president Marty Kendall, whose presentation will highlight common garden and household plants toxic to domestic cats. The discussion, beginning at 9 a.m. at Fishers of Men Lutheran Church at 10360 Stringfellow Road will include plant identification, recognizing poison symptoms and suggestions to protect pets.

Due to the pandemic, no breakfast or beverages will be served, social distancing will be practiced and facemasks will be required. The meeting is open to the public.

Founded in 1975, the Pine Island Garden Club’s mission includes the protection and conservation of natural resources, encouraging island beauty and stimulating the study of the fine art of gardening. Its civic duties include the creation and maintenance of the grounds at Phillip Park, the Museum of the Islands, Beacon of Hope and the Bokeelia Post Office. It also provides financial support to several island benevolent organizations, such as the Beacon of Hope, Calusa Land Trust, CROW, Kiwanis Children’s Park, Pine Island Elementary School and the Pine Island Food Pantry.
