After a year of virtual services, Pine Island United Methodist Church is opening its doors to in-person service again on Easter, Sunday, April 4, as well as small group meetings, said Pastor Eric McCrea.

“We feel like we’re at a point where we can do it safely,” said McCrea. “We will take the necessary precautions to be sure we’re not contributing to the spread of the virus, but at the same time we’ll come back together as a community, see each other’s faces and worship together.”

According to McCrea, some of the safety measures that people can expect will be a temperature check at the door as you enter, the requirement to wear a mask and to remain as distant as possible, by sitting in every other pew.

“Families can obviously sit together,” said McCrea. “For the time being we will not have a nursery, so kids will have to sit with their parents during worship. We will have ‘Godly Play,’ which is the equivalent of children’s church and will be at a social distance. We are going to allow people to sing … but we’re encouraging them not to belt it out.”

The 10 a.m. service will also still be live streamed for those who prefer not to return to a public gathering.
