Pine Island was treated to a special car show Sunday, Jan. 17.

“The Cars and Coffee event was hosted by the VFW on Pine Island,” said VFW Post 4353 Commander Tom Ferguson. “It was a great turnout. New friends were made and various cars were present.

“I’m hoping to grow and become a place for islanders to hang out with people who share their love for cars,” he continued. “I was pleased with the turnout and we will continue to do it monthly and eventually hope to maybe rotate to the other clubs in the area.”

Pine Island resident and VFW member Debra Hayward said of the event, “that was our first one. It was just to meet people and see cars. The coffee was free. We offered breakfast burritos for $4 and donuts for fifty cents.”

The event was outside on the concrete pad, in an attempt to keep everyone safe, although she said some people did go indoors when they got chilly. Although Hayward was busy working in the kitchen at the event, she said it seemed to attract a good amount of people.

“Being outside, people were able to stay spaced out,” said Hayward. “Everyone leisurely walked around looking at vehicles and talking with owners. From my perspective it looked like everyone had a good time.”
