Cutting Ties Salon owner Dottie Manning said she is happy to be open. In the spring the salon had been closed for 42 days as a precaution due to COVID-19. Manning said she is now Barbicide certified, which is a multi-industry standard disinfectant. In addition to receiving this certification, Manning said the staff stations are currently more than 6 feet apart, and that she and husband Jeff come in each morning to sanitize and steam the entire salon together, and they have installed a UV light in the air conditioning unit to kill any DNA that flows through the system.

“We are conforming to all the mandated standards that are issued by the DBPR (Department of Business and Professional Relations),” said Manning. “We are also doing whatever our clients are comfortable with.”

Manning is sure to give out hand sanitizer to all her clients, made by island company, Sister Moon. In addition to three stylists, Cutting Ties will begin nail services in mid-October as well as offering a “Readers Choice Award” Belava pedicure spa, for clients who prefer to have their feet in a tub that has never touched any one else.

Manning is also adding an affordable vegan makeup line by Palladio, which she said is botanical and vitamin infused.

“We have a lot of support both from the island and from distant clients who continue to come to see us on the island. We’re just trying to plug along,” said Manning.
