Last Tuesday, Aug. 18, COVID-19 testing was made available in Phillips Park on Sesame Drive, for anyone aged 4 years or older. The oral PCR testing, which, according to the FDA detects the virus’ genetic material, conducted by Lee Health, was free of charge, with test results approximated at just a few days.

According to Tammy Yzaguirre, PIO for the county at Lee Health, someone from the Department of Health will follow up by phone within 72 hours of having been tested.

The testing center in the park was originally supposed to be made available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. but had to shut down at 11:30 a.m. due to heat and potential storm issues.

Pine Island COVID-19 Task Force representatives Sue Dahod, Martha Huard and Jim McLaughlin were at the testing site to share information, and pass out bilingual CDC flyers to anyone interested.
