Hurricane Milton debris collection complete for unincorporated areas of mainland Lee County plus Boca Grande, Captiva and Pine Island

Lee County Solid Waste has announced that debris collection for Hurricane Milton has concluded for unincorporated areas of mainland Lee County in addition to Boca Grande, Captiva and Pine Island. Collections on the sparsely populated islands of Upper Captiva, Useppa and Cayo Costa are ongoing. The county is now reminding residents of unincorporated mainland Lee County, Boca Grande, Captiva and Pine Island to place their waste curbside in compliance with their regular weekly collection. Lee County Port Authority: Starting Friday, only one crosswalk will be available at RSW

The Lee County Port Authority is continuing work on terminal roadway improvements as part of the Terminal Expansion Project Phase 2 at Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW). Starting Friday, Jan. 10, the ONLY crosswalks for passengers, visitors and employees to transit from the terminal building to the Short-term Parking Garage, Car Rental Facility and all ground transportation options, including shuttles to the Long-term Parking Lot, on-demand taxis and LeeTran buses will be Crosswalk 5 on the upper level and Crosswalks 1 and 5 on the lower level. FDOT: Intermittent road closures Tuesday in Matlacha

MATLACHA, Fla. – There will be intermittent bridge closures in Matlacha Tuesday, Jan. 7, during daytime hours to allow crews to accept deliveries of concrete bridge piles to the worksite and unload onto the barge, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. The deliveries will start as early as 10 a.m. and will continue until all piles are delivered. Crews will clear traffic in between deliveries to lessen the impact to motorists on and off the island. Calusa Heritage Trail tours begin

The Calusa Heritage Trail is a part of the Florida Museum’s Randell Research Center. Located at 13810 Waterfront Drive in Pineland, the RRC’s Calusa Heritage Trail is open daily, from sunrise to sunset for self-guided visits.  Walking this trail allows participants to journey into the past at a place where archaeology, history and ecology meet and learn about the fascinating Calusa people and how they thrived right here for thousands of years!
