John Cammick

John Cammick, who began his career as a volunteer firefighter in 2003 and went on to become an EMT, said he’s thrilled that he will have 19 years under his belt as fire commissioner for the Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District after the 4-year term he won last Tuesday during the General Election.

A 15-year veteran, Cammick said it will not just be business as usual after everything the island has recently gone through, adding that the time for the fire department to get advanced life support ready couldn’t have come sooner, that it’s important to be prepared for incoming storms like Hurricane Ian, and that he’s happy to have been able to work so closely with the fire department for all these years.

“I’m so glad that my constituents thought that I deserve to be in there again,” Cammick said, who was elected to Seat 4 on the board.

On election night, Cammick received 2,214 votes, or 62.44%. His opponents, Gary L. Stone received 993 votes (28%) and Ara Hagopian 339 votes (9.56%).
