Hookers’ 2021 School Supply Drive for Pine Island Elementary under way
While school is not quite out, it is time to look ahead to the fall as things get back to normal. The Matlacha Hookers have started their annual summer school supply drive, which began last week and runs through July 31.
The Hookers are once again counting on the generosity of the island residents since there are many families on Pine Island struggling to make ends meet.
Program chair Karen Durand said, “It will be a short summer with the 2021-2022 school year starting on Aug. 2, for teachers and on Aug. 10, for the students and we want to ready. The P.I.E. teachers have provided a list of needed school supplies to ensure the students get off to a great start for a successful school year. This Matlacha Hookers program helps our teachers avoid having to use their own money to purchase supplies to ensure the island school continues its program of excellence.”
Here are the items that PIE teachers have asked for: large size backpacks with no wheels, headphones for grades K-1 and earbuds for 3-5, pencil boxes, scissors (blunt tip only), #2 pencils, erasers (both cap and large pink rectangles), whiteboard markers (erasable and fine tip), expo markers dry eraser, glue sticks, colored pencils, pens (black, blue and red), marbled composition books, spiral notebooks (one subject, wide rule), pocket folders with middle brad in all colors, 3-ring binders (both 1 inch and 2 inch), Crayola markers (washable).
