Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the structure, the chief reported, and they quickly assessed the scene and started an exterior fire attack.

All occupants of The Palms had evacuated the structure prior to fire crew arrival and no injuries were reported, he said.

Mickuleit reported that PI-1, Captain-150, E-151,E-152, E-153 and E-154 responded. In addition, Lee County EMS and Lee County Sheriff officers were also present.

The cause of this fire is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal.
