The North Georgia Wine Advisor
2016 Beringer Brothers Bourbon Barrel Aged Chardonnay
#46-2020
In the realm of wine making there is always something new to go with the old. In this case, its ageing Chardonnay in used bourbon barrels. A unique approach to put a new twist on an old favorite. This 2016 Beringer Brothers Chardonnay even comes in a bourbon-looking bottle. The wine is a little different, and worth sampling to form your own opinion
The nose is pleasant with the aroma of spice and baked apples. The flavor is a mixture of poached pear, golden delicious apples, a hint of spice, and a touch of buttery roundness. The finish needs a little more acidity, and sort of fades away, after leaving a bit of pear on the palate. The alcohol content is 14.5%, and Norm’s score is 87.
We served this Chardonnay next to a spicy Shrimp Creole, which might have overpowered the wine just a bit. The Beringer Brothers Chardonnay might make a very nice companion for roasted turkey.
