Incorporate now to protect our island
To the editor:
A recent letter to the editor entitled “Opposed to Doppler Tower” was well written and highlights the controversy over environmental and health risks of transmitting 1mm watts. However, there is another familiar issue involved; incorporation.
What, not enough radar out there? Take a look at the NOAA site (www.noaa.gov). The NOAA has numerous resources; weather stations, satellites, radar, etc. Not good enough, I guess.
Lee County is the approving authority for this project. When a corporation wants to enhance their shareholder value on the backs of others, we here on the island must protect ourselves.
How do we Pine Islanders, full and part-time, protect our lives, properties and lifestyles from Doppler towers and county development intrusion?
First, require the Doppler tower project to produce real scientific evidence that the tower will not harm any person or animal in any way. Not to mention changing the visage and landscape of the surrounding area.
Second, incorporate and become the architects of our own destiny.
