CLT thanks Pine Island community for fabulous Rubber Duck Race attendance
To the editor:
How many ways can we say thank you Pine Islanders! I’ll try to count them: 1) Super kudos to all the 65+ volunteers who worked tirelessly either gathering contributions, working Duck Day and/or cleaning 3000 “dirty” ducks this week! We couldn’t do this without you. 2) A standing ovation for the generosity of the 140+ businesses and individual donors who contributed to make this year’s Great Calusa Rubber Duck Race a resounding success! The final figures for this year’s totals are $29,400! Wow! What an Island! 3) C.W. Fudge Factory’s most delicious popcorn is always enjoyed by Duck Race celebrants and we appreciate their eager participation. 4) Particular thanks goes to Heron AC, Mango Tango Tropicals, Rustic Services Inc., Honc Industries, Alden Pines Country Club, Century 21 Team Shevlin, C.W. Fudge Factory, Low Key Tiki, Stearns Custom Builders, Bert’s Bar & Seafood Grill, Chuck’s Auto Repair Service, Tow Boat U.S Charlotte Harbor, Sutton & Associates Insurance, Estuary Escapes Science & Education and Dewey Duchaine of Allstate Aluminum for their sponsorship of the 2020 Duck Race T-shirts. 5) We applaud the unequaled support from owners and staff of Low Key Tiki for their community spirit, support (plus super salesmanship of pre-race duck tickets) and hustle while providing great food and outstanding service on Duck Day! 6) Our boundless gratitude for the fast paced chanting of our auctioneer extraordinaire, Johnny Glisson. 7) And, last but not least, thanks to our always entertaining emcee, Craig “The Snook Cowboy!” 8) Thanks is not praise enough for all that these fine volunteers do for our island community each and every year. It truly takes an island to raise this much money each year to acquire, manage and preserve the lands on this island that have been entrusted to the care of the Calusa Land Trust and Preserve. 9) A final heartfelt tribute to all the wonderful Pine Islanders, snowbirds, guests and visitors who so enthusiastically supported the Calusa Land Trust by buying Duck Race tickets, Super Duck tickets, shirts, hats and bidding on our many and varied items at the silent auction and live auction. And lest not forget the spinning duck wheels! Laughter and shouts of glee resounded over the entire afternoon with many winners of prizes and home baked goods.
What a race! What a beautiful day! What a wonderful, giving community we live inthis island paradise we all call home!
As always, I’m looking forward to seeing y’all next year!
