People should walk or bike facing oncoming traffic
To the editor:
Another roadside death! When will people realize that we should walk or bike facing oncoming traffic? At the very least, a person would be able to see and avoid errant drivers. I have been told that the bureaucratic traffic engineers, who set up the current system, realize the big mistake that was promulgated. To change back to what we were taught as kids, which is to walk facing traffic, would cost too much. It’s a cost vs. lives proposition. Does it cost too much to change? Personally, I always ride or walk facing approaching traffic. I don’t want to be another statistic by being hit from behind!
The law and system are broken. How many kids need to die before we see that the law needs to be changed? Yes, we should walk or bike facing what could be the danger of oncoming careless drivers. Street lights, benches and sidewalks may help, but the underlying problem will persist and more kids will die until we wake up.
