Cape man charged with second degree murder
A Cape Coral man has been charged with second degree murder following a shooting behind his home Tuesday.
Gerald P. Koller, 59, remained in custody in the Lee County Jail on the homicide charge late Thursday afternoon. Bond had not been set.
The Cape Coral Police Department responded to shots fired in the Cape Harbour gated community Tuesday afternoon where witnesses say they heard arguing coming from the backyard of Koller’s Harbour Circle home, as well as observed Koller firing his gun at his boat, the arrest report states.
Dispatchers warned responding officers that four to five gunshots were heard by residents.
Arriving officers were speaking to those who had reported the gunfire when more shots began to ring out, the report states.
Officers then quickly took cover and set up a perimeter around the residence of 1809 Harbour Circle and observed Koller on the back lanai yelling, according to police reports.
Officers made numerous announcements via their PA system for Koller to exit his house. Koller opened his front door and directed obscenities at the officers, but surrendered a short time after, the report states.
Once a sweep was done inside the house and the vicinity cleared, they discovered a deceased male, Jonathan Joseph Breadmore, 28, laying on the dock behind Koller’s home, near the boat, with gunshot wounds to his body.
Koller was determined to be the owner of the residence and was taken in for questioning where he reportedly refused to talk with detectives about what had occurred.
Following a sweep by the CCPD Major Crimes Unit detectives and forensic technicians, Koller was arrested and eventually transferred to Lee County Jail.
