City to conduct special lock operations at Chiquita Lock

1 min read

The city of Cape Coral will conduct special lock operations at the Chiquita Lock beginning Monday, May 23, at noon and continuing until 6 a.m. on Thursday, May 26. Both gates at the lock will remain open during this period.

Boaters must pay close attention to the flow of water in the lock when making their decision to pass through the lock. With both gates of the lock open, there may be times when the flow of water through the lock is too fast for safe passage. When this occurs during regular operating hours, the lock operator will display “red” traffic lights in both directions. Throughout this operation, boaters must observe the traffic lights and use caution while transiting the lock.

After 10 p.m., the traffic lights in both directions will remain “red,” and extreme caution is advised. The vessel with the current on its stern has limited maneuverability and should be considered the “stand on vessel” during this time.
