All of the students in the PIE Kindergarten class of 2015-2016 are featured on a poster/photograph with their thumbprints and names that has been added to the capsule.

Those involved included students from Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Frahm’s class: Meena Cooper, Anabella Costa, Angela Davis, Layla Diamond, Allison Diaz-Ramos, Dalton Dooley, Jaime Huerta, Liam Larkin, Angie Lin, Callie McCaffrey, Joseph Pacey, Kaitlyn Pollack, ShyAnn Shallow, Liam Thanhoffer, Angelica Uriostegui and Logan Williamson

Students from Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Acosta’s class were also involved. The hand prints and poster are part of the Time Capsule project commemorating the 40th anniversary of Pine Island Eagle. A special dedication ceremony was held Thursday, April 21. It will be placed on display at the Museum of the Islands for 50 years with a plan for the then editor of the Pine Island Eagle to open it on April 21, 2066.

The committee organizing the project, Ed Franks, editor of the Pine Island Eagle; Phil Buchanan, Pine Island activist; Vickie Duflo, president of the Museum of the Islands; Sharon Traylor, Museum of the Islands board; Mike Shevlin, real estate broker, and John Kendall, president Calusa Land Trust, asked the public to donate items for the capsule.

With Eagle Editor Ed Franks looking on, US. Rep. Curt Clawson's representative Elbert Ziegler, left, reads a proclamation from the congressman, who was in Washington, D.C., and couldn’t attend the Time Capsule dedication. PHOTO PROVIDED
