Islanders need to be heard
To the editor
My wife and I, along with many of our friends, don’t live on Pine Island, but we do visit there frequently. The reason we visit is because the area has so far avoided development along the lines of so much of Southwest Florida. The county seems to be considering changing this, and we are strongly opposed to increased development on this important piece of land. The bay and estuary systems are dependent on the undeveloped natural environment, and if this starts to change, the reason so many people come to Charlotte Harbor can be lost.
Certainly some level of development will occur, but we would ask that residents of the islands and those that frequent it, be heard. The county has more residents, but that should not mean that the non-voting residents (wildlife) are not considered.
I personally will not be able to attend the meeting this Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Cape Coral City Council Chambers, but do ask that your voice be heard in assuring a fair and long term solution is achieved.
