CCPD: Armed men break into Cape home, shots fired

2 min read

Armed men reportedly broke into a Cape Coral home on Monday and demanded money.

At 9:11 p.m., police responded to shots fired and a burglary in progress at 913 S.E. 27th Terrace. According to officials, a neighbor heard the shots go off and looked out the window. The caller saw several subjects with flashlights break the rear screen door of the house and enter the residence.

When officers arrived on scene, a man exited the back lanai of the home.

Police learned that the man was a resident of the house. The man told officers that two men, who are known to him, forced their way into his residence with guns and demanded money owed to them. When they left, they fired rounds into the hood and rear quarter panel of a vehicle parked at the home.

A witness stated that the suspects possibly fled the area in a GMC Jimmy.

Police reported that no one was injured, but three children were inside of the house at the time.

A woman who answered the phone on Tuesday declined to comment on the incident.

Sherrill C. Culliver has been the owner of the property since 2008, according to the Lee County Tax Collector. Culliver was unaware of the incident himself on Tuesday when reached by telephone.

“I’m just now finding out about it,” he said.

Culliver stated that he does not reside at the residence.

“I am renting the home,” he said.

On Monday, detectives and forensic personnel responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
