St. John’s holds dinner mystery theater
Saturday night, St. John’s Episcopal Church held its annual “Mystery Dinner Theater.” This year’s play was “Murder on the Grill.”
The press release announcing the production asks. “What era do hula-hoops, hot rods, black leather jackets and bobby sox call to mind? If you answered 1950s, and the birth of Rock ‘n’ Roll and backyard cookouts, you answered correctly.”
The setting for this mystery is in Kansas City, Missouri, at a backyard barbecue and the audience had the opportunity to deduce who the real killer is.
When car dealer Tom Dooley is murdered at his backyard grill with a barbecue fork there are six suspects for the audience to choose from: Ivan Spudnick, a Russian never without his flask of vodka, (played by Joel Koonce); Chubby Cheddar, a rock and roll star, (played by Tom Cleaver); Bobby Sox, Tom Dooley’s sister, (played by Joyce Wozniak); Johnny Angel, an auto mechanic for Tom Dooley, (played by Harry Piper); Tiara Diamond, a romantic interest of Tom Dooley, (played by Genevra Koonce); and Barbie Que, Dooley’s girlfriend (played by Chris Miley).
The play was narrated by Dana Dragnet (played by Marion Seery).
To fit the theme of the play dinner was barbequed chicken provided by Saltwater Smokehouse. Side dishes were potato salad, cole slaw, dessert, coffee and tea. Caramel corn was provided by CW Fudge.
