Last Saturday night, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church held its second “Artist Appreciation” night.

“This is only the second ‘Artist Appreciation’ night we’ve held,” organizer Judy Hage said. “With the help of Paula Larson and Marie Hughes we managed to have nearly twice as many artists this year than we had for our first year.”

All artists living in the Greater Pine Island area were invited to bring their art works to display and sell. There were sculptors, jewelers, painters and lots more.

“It’s just amazing how much talent there is on this little island,” Hage said. “This year we have 28 artists and they’re all local.”

One local artist, Eileen Felice, displayed several paintings of famous people: Lucille Ball, Marilyn Monroe, Stevie Wonder, Steven Tyler and even the Pope.

“I started painting about 10 years ago when I began taking care of my sister who was ill,” Felice said. “I needed something to do while I was looking after her so I decided to teach myself to paint with acrylics.”

“This is an event open to everyone with no entry fee,” Hage said. “We want to show the great talent we have on the Island. Even with the terrible weather I’m really pleased with the turnout we have a lot of people here tonight. This is also just a nice sociable evening.”
