Donald Leroy Reedy
Donald Leroy Reedy, 95, formerly of Pine Island, passed on Friday, December 25, 2015 at his home in Cape Coral, Florida. He was born September 6, 1920 in Germantown, Ohio.
In January 1944, Don enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he served as a tail-gunner on a B-24 Liberator in the 448th Battalion.
In 1937, Don opened Reedy Foods on Broadway Street in Middletown with his two brothers Luther and Leonard Reedy. It was there that he met a special customer, Bernice (Shaffer) Reedy, who became his wife in 1940. Together the family ran Reedy Foods for 37 years until it was purchased by Kroger in 1974.
A life-long sports fan, Don cheered loudest for the Reds, Bengals and Ohio State football. He and Bernice enjoyed their retirement homes on Sanibel Island and later, Pine Island, Florida as well as traveling to Ely, MN where they loved to fish together.
Preceded in death by Bernice, their son Dr. Michael Reedy (Robin), and his brother Leonard, Don is survived by his daughter, Lyn Ring (Indianapolis); son, Scott Reedy (Cape Coral) and brother, Luther (Sarasota); as well as nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
