2 min read

The Cape Coral Historical Museum launches a first for Cape Coral on January 30, with an open-air Bluegrass Jamboree and barbecue on the grounds of the museum at 544 Cultural Park Boulevard. The Jamboree a family-friendly afternoon of fun and food is a fundraiser for the Museum, which for more than 30 years has worked to preserve the history of Cape Coral.

Bluegrass is a form of American Roots music that was brought to America by early European settlers. It is a combination of country and gospel. The Bluegrass Jamboree presents three well-known local bands that have performed throughout Florida: Cypress Hollow, Banyan Bluegrass and Bugtussle Ramblers. The program emcee is Dick Spottswood, host of the “The Dick Spottswood Show.”

* Cypress Hollow

Cypress Hollow been playing together for about a year. David and John are from Florida and have been playing in the area since the 80s in various different bands. They play a mix of Country, American and Bluegrass and have been playing music in the area for several years with other bands. This year they decided to get together to form the band Cypress Hollow.

*?Banyan Bluegrass

Based in Southwest Florida, Banyan Band was formed out of a love of grass roots American music. Once the group came together three years ago, they quickly discovered that their downhome, toe-tapping, family-friendly music brought smiles to peoples’ faces. The connection? Banyan enjoys entertaining everyone, as much as people enjoy listening to their music!

Bugtussle Ramblers

*?Southwest Florida’s popular Acoustic Bluegrass Band blends traditional style bluegrass music and songs with the inspirations that guide bluegrass today. Their energetic show includes a variety of tunes to have your toes tapping and have you humming along. The band includes the strong traditional rhythm guitar of Doug Yaehrling, the driving banjo style of Karen Batten, and the creative, thoughtful mandolin work from Doug Gerdon. Mark Iselo rounds out the band playing strong upright bass. Their voices blend in a variety of vocal arrangements. Together, they provide a musically entertaining bluegrass show.
