* The Christmas Spectacular

The Christmas Spectacular will play at Cultural Park Theatre from Dec. 16-20.

If you’re a theater buff and especially a “Christmas buff,” and been in the area a decade or more, you may have seen one Cultural Park Theatre’s Christmas shows.

They’re always upbeat and happy, filled with traditional holiday songs, some pop favorites, some comedy routines and ditties, lots of glittery costumes and a heartwarming finale to boost the Christmas spirit.

Written and directed by Michael Moran, the show will fature new songs, skits, and delightful costumes and, of course, Santa and cookies in the lobby.

Opening night will include a holiday reception with hors d’oeuvres and beverages prior to the show and a chance to meet the cast and “Santa,” following the show. Bring the entire family this is sure to put you in the holiday spirit.

The show plays matinees at 3 p.m. and evenings at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, Firday and Saturday, Dec. 16 through Dec. 20, at the Cultural Park Theater, 528 Cultural Park Blvd. Tickets are $19 adults, $17 for seniors with children’s prices and group rates available. * Breakfast with Santa

Children will be able to have breakfast with Santa at the North Fort Myers Rec Center from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. this Saturday. A Continental breakfast will be served from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on the outdoor patio, with Santa in one of the rooms, after which the children can enjoy arts and crafts and a dance performance by the Snap Dance Crew in the gymnasium.

Breakfast is $3. The rec center is at 2000 N Recreation Park Way, North Fort Myers. For more information call the recreation center at 533-7200.

* Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers

The Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers offer a sparkling holiday concert Dec. 13 to brighten spirits and sing in the holiday season. “Christmas on Sanibel” on Sunday, Dec. 13, will be performed at the Sanibel Community Church, at 5 pm.

“The concert is a celebration of Christmas featuring fresh arrangements of familiar carols and other music.” According to Artistic Director Jeff Faux. “The Mastersingers will be accompanied by a professional brass and percussion ensemble that will make for a thrilling celebration.” “Christmas on Sanibel” offers selections by John Rutter, Dan Forrest, Randol Alan Bass, and Nancy Hill Cobb. * Christmas Carol A TheatreKids’ Production

An old tale gets an entirely new spin this holiday season as TheatreKids presents A Christmas Carol, Dec. 18-21 at the Sidney & Berne Davis Arts Center in downtown Fort Myers. A cast of talented young artists joins master storyteller Douglas Coventry in a performance that blends narration, dance and creative movement in a one-of-a-kind rendition of Charles Dickens’ classic. Prepare to laugh, cry, hoot and holler-and, for the little ones, even join the action on stage.

This is the Fort Myers debut for the children’s theater company, which has been operating in Charlotte County for 26 years. The mission of Theatre Kids, Performance Academy & Company, is to cultivate imagination, develop artistry, and provide opportunities for young artists to interpret great literature and showcase their talent in works that uplift and inspire. Join us as we bring the magic to life!

* Holiday Treats Dance

Dance Bochette invites the community to brighten their season through the joy of dance. Holiday Treats, the studio’s annual seasonal celebration, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m. at the CityGate Ministries Activities Center, 1735 Jackson St., Fort Myers. Admission is free. The show features Dance Bochette students in ballet, tap, modern and acrobatics and is set to a soundtrack that includes holiday classics as well as new renditions of favorite tunes. You may even catch a glimpse of Santa!

* Sears Hometown Store Make-A-Wish drive

The Cape Coral Sears Hometown Store is joining more than 1,200 Sears retailers holiday campaign with Make-A-Wish. Called “Season of Wishes,” the funds raised in the campaign will allow Make-A-Wish to help more children with life-threatening medical conditions experience the powerful, and oftentimes, life-changing impact of a fulfilled wish.
