By ED FRANKS
Lee County Parks and Recreation and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Pine Island have scheduled the 34th annual Pine Island Junior Olympics for Saturday, Dec. 12.
“This is a great day for the children of Pine Island,” Kiwanis president Joy Veatch said. “Children from Kindergarten through 5th grade may compete in the Pine Island Junior Olympics. The children will compete in the long jump, 50 yard dash, quarter-mile run, Frisby toss and softball throw.”
Just like last year, the fun competition will be at the Bobby Holloway Little League Field.
“Each child will compete against children in their own grade and gender,” Veatch said. “Also each participant will receive a T-shirt, a hot dog and a soda.”
If your child is interested in participating in this annual event, please complete the permission form sent home by Pine Island Elementary School. The forms may also be picked up at the Matlacha Community Center and Pine Island Pool.
Return the forms to Pine Island Elementary School, Matlacha Community Center or Pine Island Pool by Dec. 11 (the day before the event).
All those wishing to participate in the competition must be signed in by 9:50 a.m. on Dec. 12.
