City road paving project to begin Wednesday
Ajax Paving will be onsite Wednesday morning to begin prep work for the city’s $4 million major road paving project. The company will be resurfacing Diplomat Parkway from Burnt Store Road to Santa Barbara Boulevard. The contractor will be clipping and clearing in advance of the paving operations.
The crew will start clipping at the north end of Santa Barbara Boulevard at Diplomat and move westward from that point. Additionally, the contractor will dispatch their widening crew to the west end of Diplomat late this week to begin widening. Ajax expects asphalt to be poured in the next two weeks.
The project initially was set to begin Monday, Nov. 30. The short delay in the start of the project will not impact the current schedule, and work should be completed in April 2016.
About 14 miles (centerline) of major roads will be paved in this project. Diplomat Parkway covers about 4 miles. Nelson Road from Tropicana Parkway to Kismet Parkway also will be resurfaced. In the southeast Cape, paving will be completed on the Everest / Shelby loop east of Del Prado.
Drivers should exercise caution when traveling along these roadways during construction.
