Saltwater Smokehouse holds ‘open house’ for Pine Island Elementary teachers, staff
Monday afternoon, Aug. 17, the Saltwater Smokehouse restaurant treated Pine Island Elementary School’s teachers and staff to lunch “on the house.”
“The children go back to school next Monday and this may be the last opportunity for them to sit down and have lunch,” Saltwater Smokehouse chef Randy Post said of the teachers and staff. “The two most important things are the children and the children’s education. The teachers at Pine Island Elementary school all work so hard to educate our children.”
The menu at the restaurant is extensive.
“Because the building came with a smoker, much of the food is smoked (not barbecue),” Post said. “At the top of the menu is the Zydeco Seafood Gumbo with house smoked sausage, chicken, shrimp and scallops served with rice. We also have smoked pulled pork, house smoked sausage, smoked brisket and the smokehouse burger. Lots of seafood is offered: shrimp, clam strips, and even smoked fish dip.”
Chef Randy Post also presented PIE with a check for $300. “This is just a very thoughtful thing to do,” PIE Principal Rob Mazzoli said. “We have every teacher and staff member here today. I can’t tell you how much we appreciate this.”
“I have children that go to Pine Island Elementary and we have a very special school,” Post said. “This is our way of giving back to the great teachers and staff of Pine Island Elementary.”
The Saltwater Smokehouse is at 10251 Stringfellow Road in St. James City.
