A Cape Coral man who was hospitalized after falling from the bed of a pickup truck died.

Timothy Francis Holland, 23, of Cape Coral, passed away from his injuries Saturday at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken following the July 9 incident, according to officials.

The Cape police reported that at 10 p.m., Holland was riding in the back of a Dodge Ram 1500 as it was leaving the rear parking lot of Stevie Tomato’s Sports Page, at 814 S.W. Pine Island Road. He then stood up and learned forward onto the cab as the driver of the truck made a right turn to leave the lot.

Holland reportedly reached toward the driver’s window with one hand to gain the driver’s attention. While doing so, he lost his balance and fell out of the cargo area, coming to a rest on the road.

The driver, Corey Joseph Morgan, 25, of 2137 S.W. Fifth Ave., immediately stopped and he and a second passenger, Travis Brett Robey, 21, of the Cape, checked on Holland, according to police.

Upon observing Holland’s injuries, Morgan and Robey placed him in the cargo area and drove him directly to the Cape Coral Hospital. Holland was treated and later transferred to Lee Memorial.

Officials reported that neither Morgan nor Robey were injured in the accident

Alcohol is reportedly a factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
