Citizens honored for their heroics
Two citizens who rendered aid immediately when a boat exploded into flames with six people on board at Tarpon Point Marina last month were recognized for their heroic acts by the city and Cape Coral Fire Department at Monday night’s City Council meeting. From left, acting City Manager Steve Pohlman, Mayor Marni Sawicki, Capt. David Holzhauer, acting Deputy Chief Robert Topoleski, Capt. David Durham and Fire Department Chief Donald Cochran posed after the presentation. The two fishing captains were credited with avoiding an ecological disaster, rescuing those aboard and preventing the flames from spreading to nearby boats and fuel docks.
