Sunday, Feb. 15, was the GPI Lions Club 5th Annual Raffle/Auction. Thanks to everyone who bought tickets and participated in the event. Raffle winners were: $100 winners, Diane Monhollan and Steve Smith; $500 winner, Pat Halvorson; $1,000 winner, Elvis Long (the last two were not present). Congratulations to the winners of the raffle prizes, and congratulations to all those who bid on the auction items and won.

We want to start out by expressing our sincere thanks to Mr. Robin A. Pearl, president of American Mariculture Inc., who provided us with fresh shrimp for our buffet. We want to also thank all of you who came forward and helped with cooking the food, distributing the food, cleaning up the kitchen and Mel Brinson and the Boy Scouts who helped at noon before the event and came back at 10 p.m. to help tear down, put away and cleaned. Thanks to all who sold the tickets, helped with decorating, and those who donated the great items for our auction.

The Greater Pine Island Lions cannot exist without the help from our community. We desperately need more members if we are to continue. I asked everyone in attendance to come and be a part of our group and help us provide eye exams, glasses and eye surgeries when needed by our residents who cannot afford to pay for these services themselves. We must help prevent blindness on our Island.
