Tickets on sale: Theatre Night to fund scholarships
Tickets are going fast for the annual Cape Coral Mayors Scholarship Fund Theatre Night.
The event will take place March 18 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Cape Coral Art League. Dinner and cocktails will be available for about an hour, at which point the doors to the Cultural Park Theatre will open. “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” a musical comedy, will begin at 7 p.m.
Liz Stuart, event chair, explained that the fundraiser has been held for several years. Its primary goals are to raise funds for the Cape Coral Mayors Scholarship Fund but also to raise public awareness.
“We want the public to know what the (Mayors Scholarship) Fund has done – giving high school scholarships for over 30 years,” she said.
Last year, the Theatre Night raised approximately $6,000.
“With corporate sponsorships, we gave $1,500 scholarships to 23 graduating high school seniors,” Stuart said.
As for the Theatre Night, there were 185 tickets up for grabs.
“We’ve probably sold 100 by now,” she said Thursday. “There are tickets available.”
Organizers ran out of tickets for the 2014 fundraiser.
“We sold out the theater last years, and we hope to sell out the theater this year,” Stuart said.
For the first time, the Cape Coral Art League has volunteered its facility.
“Our dinner has always been an outdoor dinner,” she said.
Annie’s Restaurant is catering the meal; beer and wine are include in the ticket price.
“It’s a barbecue,” Stuart said. “Pork sandwiches with all the accompaniments and a dessert.”
She noted that attendees can walk between the Cape Coral Art League and Cultural Park Theatre or assistance will be provided. The performance will start at 7 p.m., but the theater will open early.
“It’s a very short little walk across the parking lot to the theater,” Stuart said.
The theater will also feature a bar.
During the fundraiser, raffle tickets will be sold for $5 each. Some of the raffle items will include tickets to the symphony and professional baseball games, original artwork and wine baskets.
“There are several free rounds of golf at Coral Oaks (Golf Course) and Palmetto-Pine (Country Club),” she said. “Just a multitude and a wide variety of items.”
Last year, the raffle raised about $1,400.
“Hopefully, we’ll do the same or better this year,” Stuart said.
Organizers encouraged people to pick up tickets.
“It’s such a great value for the money and it’s a fabulous way to support the youth in our community,” she said.
