Shelter tour, concert for the dogs set for Monday at GCHS
The Gulf Coast Humane Society will host The Gulf Coast Symphony, from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, for “This Concert is for the Dogs.”
Executive Director and Conductor, Dr. Andrew Kurtz will be leading an ensemble of musicians for the enjoyment of the shelter dogs as well as the public.
The concert is part of the Gulf Coast Symphony’s 20+ Days of Music to celebrate 20 years of bringing the community together through music.
“GCHS plays classical music for the dogs as a result of studies that have linked classical music to a more relaxed and restful behavior. Studies have shown classical music calms shelter dogs and can help to reduce stress,” said Jennifer Galloway, executive director of the GCHS, in a prepared statement. “When Linda Onorevole, Managing Director of The Gulf Coast Symphony recently visited our shelter she recognized that this would be a perfect opportunity to add to the 20+ Days of Music.”
The ensemble will be playing in the shelter lobby with the doors open to the Canine Cove and Clubhouse for all the adoptable dogs. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the music and tour the shelter during the event.
The Gulf Coast Humane Society is at 2010 Arcadia Street in Fort Myers.
