City Manager John Szerlag is recommending that City Council ratify four collective bargaining agreements with the city’s general employees unions at Monday’s regular council meeting at City Hall.

Szerlag indicates that members of union Local 2301 “overwhelmingly approved these agreements.” At the center of the agreements is a 5 percent increase in base wages retroactive to Sept. 27, 2014. Additionally, effective Feb. 14, 2015, a combination of base wage range and movement within the range equal to a total not to exceed 5 percent.

“This moves us closer to the goal of achieving the 75th percentile in pay,” Szerlag states in a memo to council members.

The agreements are with the four unions representing employees in the Blue Collar Unit, White Collar Unit, Supervisory Unit and Nonsupervisory Professional Unit of International Union of Painters &?Allied Trades, AFL/CIO District Council 78.

Szerlag plans to request approval of range and base pay increases for the non-bargaining employees by 10 percent effective Feb. 14, 2015, at the March 2 council meeting.

Council also will hold the final public hearing Monday on Ordinance 1-15 amending the city’s five-year schedule of Capital Improvements (2015-2020) and the related Lee ?County School District five-year facilities work program. The revision is required annually by Florida law.

Additionally, council will hear a report on developing smartphone-friendly apps to be used by residents seeking such information as garage sale permits and lists, things to do, news, and pay water bills.
