To the editor:

I would like to send out an avalanche of gratitude to those who helped make our 4th Annual Parade of Mermaids a successful fund-raising event that was also great fun! First, thanks to Marcia Goggin, Nancy Goodwin, Linda Good, Jacque Jennings and Bonnie Hodges for your enthusiasm and support, and all your hard work for this event, and all year long. Also, thanks to Marty and John who set it up and tore it down, and helped with the helium balloons! Thanks to Pete Wood for your support and to From Our Hearts members for volunteering. Thanks to William at C.W. Fudge for the delightful chocolate mermaids, and to Island Seafood for the delicious seafood chowder, and to Aimee and the kitchen crew at Bert’s for the tasty hors d’oeuvres, and to Bernard for your generosity of spirit that allows us to do this, and to Laura Smith whose love of her mother inspired the Island Pirate Fest to raise money for a local breast cancer charity.

Thanks to those who donated their art: Leoma Lovegrove, Marie Cahill, M.K. Alspaugh and Nell McGuire. Big thanks also go to Nicole Pincchino and friend for being our official mermaid portrait photographers. Scotty Player and your awesome Arkansas friends who surprised us with some terrific tunes and got the mermaids dancing, you were the best surprise of the night! Annie Wenz, who came by to lead the procession with your native flute, I hope will make this an annual trek. Thanks, also to musicians-turned-judges: Skip Williams, Joe Harley, and Jennifer Mazziotti who put down their instruments and shared the stage with the Mermaids of Matlacha.
