Kayak Club presentation set for Monday council meeting

2 min read

City Council will plunge into final public hearings on two ordinances and one resolution at its next meeting on Monday at City Hall.

The two ordinance amendments are about two major planned development projects in the city. One concerns the so-called Burnt Store Center Subdivision at Tropicana Parkway, and the other referred to as Cape Coral Marketplace on Pine Island Road at Hibiscus Drive.

The Burnt Store development includes and abuts the 7-Eleven convenience store, fuel pumps and car wash facility. Staff reports and a vote by the Planning & Zoning Commission recommend approval.

Staff recommends approval of the Marketplace development seeking exceptions for an auto repair and service station with convenience store, business offices, and subdivision tracts for a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market and other retail space.

Approval is expected on the resolution to execute an agreement with the Florida DOT for installation of sidewalks on Cape Coral Parkway from Agualinda Boulevard to Southwest 29th Avenue.

Council also will hear an outside consultant’s report on the audit of the city’s fuel, parts acquisition, monitoring, disbursement and usage. The audit describes the process on 65 controls and makes 45 recommendations to strengthen and improve controls of the fuel and parts items.

Council will hear a presentation by the South Florida Canoe/Kayak Club proposal to develop an athletic complex with an estimated project cost of $22.5 million on land leased from the city.

Staff has concluded the project is a “qualifying project” under the states Public-Private Partnership (P3) statute.

Lastly, council also will further discuss the ongoing employee classification and compensation study in followup to Wednesday’s special workshop session.

Council meets at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall on Cultural Park Boulevard.
