Popular flea market to return to Community Park in NFM

2 min read

One person’s trash may soon become another’s treasure.

It will be a chance for people to buy and sell stuff at ridiculously low prices when the North Fort Myers Community Flea Market returns from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, behind the North Fort Myers Library.

The flea market will be held in the side parking lot across from the shuffleboard courts, facing the football fields, moving from its previous location on the football fields.

Jenniffer Velez, who runs the flea market, said the event has been held long before she began running it three years ago and has always been successful.

“It just a nice time to go out and sell their unwanted stuff and make a buck out of it,” Velez said. “It’s a nice time to come out in the community.”

The flea market will have up to 52 available spots, which is essentially a parking spot in the lot, of which 15 or so have already committed, Velez said, adding that most are expected to sign up at the last minute.

“We prefer people sign up beforehand because set up is early. Once the event starts, that’s it. We can’t have anyone else ride through,” Velez said.

Residents who wish to turn unwanted items into cash are encouraged to register ASAP to reserve space for $5. Tables and chairs will not be provided. Pre-registration is required to guarantee a space.

Set-up for vendors will be from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and gates will open for the public at 8 a.m.

Among the items shoppers can expect is clothing, jewelry, toys, CDs, movies, furniture, household items and much more.

Velez said the event has always been well attended. This year, an AAU basketball tournament is coming to the rec center, which should bring in even more people, many from outside the area.
