Valors Program honors World War II veteran for his years of service
The Valor Program of the Veterans Administration veterans for Hope Hospice visited Choices in Living Adult Day Care Center in Cape Coral Tuesday to honor one of their own.
Valor Program representatives Ralph Kamp, Dick Phillips, John Oliver and Darrell Ramsden presented World War II veteran Joseph Failla with a certificate of recognition for his years of service in the U.S. Army.
Failla, 89, who goes to the center three to four days a week, served in Belgium, France, Germany and England during his tour of duty.
“He loves coming here because he enjoys the socialization with the men and women here,” said Choices In Living co-owner Debbie Beavers. “He grew up in the Bronx, N.Y., never married and lived with his family all of his life. He now lives with his niece and nephew, Barbara Kelly and Al Emanuelo, in Cape Coral.”
Failla worked for the New York Housing Authority as a maintenance man for 25 years. He never drove a car, walked everywhere he went yet never missed a day of work.
“He is devoted to his family and especially his 96-year-old sister, Netta,” said Beavers.
