Cape man dies of injuries in single-vehicle crash
A Cape Coral man died Monday after losing control of his truck and crashing.
At about 1 a.m., David Valentine Schultz III, 20, was headed southbound on Del Prado Boulevard South in a Toyota Tacoma when he moved from the center lane to the inside lane in the 300 block and struck the curb. According to police, the Tacoma crossed back to the center lane and began to spin.
Schultz reportedly lost control, and the truck crossed all the southbound lanes of Del Prado before passing through the intersection at Southeast Fourth Street. The Tacoma then struck the curb located in the southwest corner of the intersection and entered the Hess parking lot, at 402 S. Del Prado Blvd.
Police reported that as the truck entered the parking lot, its front end struck a concrete post, causing it to spin. The front left side of the Tacoma then struck another concrete post, spinning it around again.
The truck next reportedly traveled south through the parking lot and rolled over on its right side. The Tacoma continued traveling southbound until its roof eventually struck a tree and it came to a stop.
Schultz was extracted from the truck by the Cape Coral Fire Department, according to police. He was transported to a local hospital, where Schultz later died as a result of the injuries that he sustained.
Police reported that the investigation into the case is ongoing.
