Under sunny skies and a cool tropical breeze, Pine Island’s first golf cart parade was held Sunday afternoon.

“We started working on this parade about six months ago,” organizer Jack Frost said. “There’s a lot of paperwork you have to go through with the county between the fire department, sheriff’s department, parks and recreation, insurance and a few other things. There are restrictions we have to adhere to, we can’t go on private property, we have to stay on the streets and I can say the sheriff’s department has been awesome.”

The parade started on the corner of 7th Avenue and Mangrove Street and wound throughout St. James City for more than an hour.

“This is just another excuse to get together and have some fun,” Frost said. “Decorating the carts took several hours for many of those participating. As a former firefighter, my gold cart is a fire truck with the flashing lights and ladder. Phil Buchanan is the Grand Marshall this year.”

Golf carts can be used from sunrise to sunset on the streets of St. James City.
