Island Coast’s High’s Poteet named Male National Champion at Ultimate Raider Competition

Island Coast High School JROTC Cadet Joseph Poteet, a junior, was named the Male National Champion in the Ultimate Raider Competition last weekend.

JROTC Raider Challenge Teams from Island Coast High School, Mariner High School, North Fort Myers High School and South Fort Myers High School represented the School District of Lee County at the 2014 National Raider Meet on Saturday, Nov. 8, in Molena, Ga.

Team events at the National Raider Meet included a physical team challenge, rope bridge crossing, a 5K team run, an obstacle course and a cross country rescue.

The North Fort Myers High School mixed male/female team earned fourth place overall in the competition.

The Mariner High School female team took sixth place and the Mariner male team placed ninth.

The Island Coast High School male team placed 13th and South Fort Myers High School placed 14th.

The National Raider Meet individual event was the Ultimate Raider Competition.

This competition required cadets to participate in a 3K run up and down rugged hills while carrying a 35-pound pack.

As part of the run, cadets were required to successfully navigate a mud pit, an eight-foot wall and several obstacles.
